Wakeboarding: The watersport of the decade

The recreational activity of wakeboarding can be considered a amalgamation of water skiing, snowboarding, and surfing. The hope of a wakeboarder is to coast along a body of water, while riding a solid board.
Wakeboarding may have just become famous but it is already a few decades old.
When comparing skiing, surfing and wakeboarding, the use of a boat to travel at high speeds provides a different thrill in the sport of wakeboarding.
Riders are pulled at speeds up to 24mph.

The water conditions, board size and rider’s bodyweight decide the corresponding speed. A honeycomb core with a fiberglass shell maintain buoyancy on top of the water. Fins and bindings are bound to the board with the help of metal fasteners.
Each individual has different opinions on where the perfect position for bindings and fins on the board is. The fins on a wakeboard additionally vary in size and shape and can be mastered to undertake difficult tricks.

To achieve a flat spin, riders use shorter fins that hardly poke out of the water. The ropes used for waterskiing are not usable by a wakeboarder since they are not stiff enough to perform tricks.

The size of the ropes and handles vary, but usually they are just over 55 feet and 13 inches respectively.
It is easier to try one’s hand at some tricks with a wider grip because one can exchante it behind the back. To help find cords in the case that they are lost, neoprene floats are affixed. The best possible wakeboarding can be seen on lakes, but inter-coastal watercourses are increasing in number.
Boats are being produced with the sole purpose of wakeboarding in mind. Larger wakes are better for difficult tricks. To get larger wakes one can either add weight to the boat or travel faster. Traveling at higher velocities can be dangerous, so sometimes adding weight to the motorboat is a better decision. The evaluation of a ballast tank is based on the weight it can carry. Ballast tanks can be in seat-form so that more passengers can sit in the boat. Both men and women participate in wakeboarding competitions. At the first female competition, Tara Hamilton competed and won. Wakeboarding is a excellent physical workout.
It exercises the heart and builds muscle strength.
