Re: “Dallas to float $55 million pool proposal — Plan would replace aging
facilities with a collection of water parks,” Wednesday news story.
Why is the city in the water park and swimming pool business? This is an
11-week headache that has high-maintenance costs, high liability and
eventually becomes another problem.
Why not put in some water faucets and tell people to bring their own hose and
sprinkler? They already do this with volleyball nets, tennis gear,
basketballs, charcoal and the like. Two trees and a net create an afternoon of
fun.
We need to stop doing all of these “nice things to do,” and get back to basics
– like grass, benches, tables, grills, trails, etc.
