Tips for Water Safety on the Sunshine Coast
You are in for a treat if you are planning to make a trip to the Sunshine Coast with it’s gorgeous blue ocean and stunning white beaches. But if you are going to be playing in the water you need to be very aware of water safety rules while you are out there doing all there is to do. Here are some tips to know while you are on the Sunshine Coast in the water.
Be sure to follow the flags that are flying on the beaches, they are put there to allow you to know where there is safe swimming allowed and where you shouldn’t swim, usually because of strong water flow or due to something in the ocean. Watch the flags and swim only between the red and yellow flags, beyond the red flag is dangerous.
Swim with the lifeguards. Whether your travels take you to a hotel swimming pool, park pool, or beach, make sure you only swim where there is a lifeguard present. A lifeguard will know what to do not only in the case of a drowning but all other first aid emergencies as well. Especially if you are swimming with a large group or small children, having an extra set of eyes on the water can really help increase your comfort level and help keep everyone safe.
Use water safety gear. Make sure to put young children in life vests and keep an eye on them at all times. Life vests during water sports are imperative and should be worn during skiing, boating and fishing. Even if you are an avid swimmer, if you bump your head and go unconscious than your life vest will help keep you afloat and can mean the difference between life and death.
Know how to summon assistance, if you’re swimming and something happens that you need help, stay calm, raise your hand up and the lifeguard will know you need some assistance. Have the lifeguard teach you how to identify rips and the ways to avoid them so you don’t get into trouble.
