What is the significance of not taping the heel of your hockey stick?

nhl stars such as rick nash, and alex ovechkin only tape half of their stick. the part that is bare is the heel. i have tried this, but instead of good things, i just found it harder to keep the puck on my stick. it just seemed that it was harder to keep the puck on my stick due to the lack of grip. what should i do or what am i missing. Thanks!

Preference and the way there curve is formed. Did you ever see Ovechkin’s curve? I have never seen a curve that is almost like a ramp,that’s why he can get his shot up, its possibly the weirdest curve you will ever see, as for Nash I never seen his curve but I’m sure it’s weird.
