The contact time between the woman and the trampoline was 0.5second. Find the average force the trampoline exerted on the woman. Ignore air resistance and her own weight.
First find woman’s velocity just before hitting trampoline from conservation of energy;
KE(bottom) = PE(top)
(1/2)mv^2 = mgh
v= SqRt(2gh)
= -14 m/s (negative for down)
The force is found from the time rate of change in momentum;
F = [Pf - Pi]/t
= [(55)(10) - (55)(-14)]/.5
= 2640 N
