Meribel Ski At Frances Snowfield Destination
France is a beautifully vibrant country that is host to cultural genius in art, fashion and music. Among these enthusiasms is a large following for holidaying at Meribel ski slopes. Nearly 10,000 kilometers of downhill ski runs attracts visitors from all over the world, connecting the French with an annual tourism boost.
The attractiveness of the downhill ski runs has augmented over the past two decades, as the advent of snowboarding onto the ski scene has the youngest generation of snow sport enthusiasts charging to the snowfields. Boarder-cross runs have been constructed in the safety of seven snowboard parks to serve the influx of eager snow boarder riders and foster free riding skills. Competition level parks are kept in pristine condition for the serious contenders. Some boardercross runs have falls of two hundred meters, which rocks for teens. Two halfpipes and many different jumps are in the snow park.
To keep both teens and adults happy, festivals take place on the snowfields at night. As the sun sets the stage begins with disc jockey’s, live music and happy audience. In March, the filmed performances are free to attend. The festivals go for five days at a time, consecutively and are a highlight of the valley’s nightlife.
Extra entertainment in the village entails nights out at the pub, eating delicious cuisine at one of the many restaurants, a visit to the wellness centre, discotheque, a film at one of the cinemas, take in a game of ice hockey or bowling. There is plenty of range to enchant every tourist, with appropriate benefits for families, and singles.
Apart from the festival and general activities to be enjoyed in the village, Meribel is also host to European Competitions in Men’s Slalom. Eleven nations will be in competition with each other and the slopes to gain accredited title for the Alpine Skiing European Cup. Two races will see over one hundred entrants vie for the title or accrue points for the sport, with a view to the winter Olympics.
However, it is not only an adult sport. Young skiing teens belonging to a team are in training too, looking ahead for the next set of winter games after Vancouver. Contests in the children’s sporting events are created for youngsters aged from 11 to 14 years of age. Skiing is a passion for some children who have set their goals to achieve as much as they can in competition and go as far as their skills will take them. It is an exciting sport to be involved in and Meribel is a fantastic place to sharpen their abilities.
A swim in an outdoor heated pool appeals to the most adventuresome people, especially if it snows. Water aerobics classes are held regularly at the wellness centre for people who want to look after their health while on holiday. Several trained specialists and masseurs are on hand to deliver some healthy indulgence while enjoying a break from the fields.
The journey to Meribel Ski slopes is an easy one. Trains, buses and private cars make the trip up to the resort every day. If travelling from Britain, a sleepover coach will make it hassle free from London or Milan. About 200 ski lifts operate on the slopes, taking novices and experts to the top of the mountain. It’s up to you to get your own way down.
